Respekt

An einer Fußgängerampel in New York: Grün für die Fußgänger, ein schwarzer Rennradfahrer fährt in gefährlichem Tempo durch die Menge der Fußgänger (er hat Rot) und ruft den zur Seite springenden Fußgängern vergnügt zu: "I dont't respect you when you don't respect me..."

Da sieht man mal wieder, wie vieldeutig der Begriff "respect" verwendet werden kann - hier die Formel, mit der Frau Sotomayor, die erste Latina als Richterin am Obersten Gerichtshof, gestern vereidigt wurde.

“I do solemnly swear or affirm that I will administer justice without

respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will

faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me

according to the best of my abilities and understanding, agreeably to the

constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God.”
